Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows. It is the fourth installment of the Call of Duty video game series, excluding expansions. It is also the first one to break away from the World War II setting and to be set in modern times, and the first game in the series to be rated Mature in North America. The title and game details were announced on April 25, 2007, while it was released worldwide between November 6, 2007 and November 9, 2007, and became available on Steam on November 6, 2007 for pre-purchase, becoming available to play on November 12, 2007. A Mac OS X version of the game is scheduled to be released in May 2008.

A lethal virus spreads throughout the British isles,infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands. While on vacation in a resort in Mexico, the Americans Jeff, his girlfriend Amy, her best friend Stacy and her boyfriend Eric befriend the German Mathias in the swimming pool. Mathias invites the group to visit the ruins of a Mayan temple with his Greek friend Dimitri in an archeological field where his brother Henrich and his girlfriend are camped eighteen kilometers far from the resort. They hire an old taxi and when they reach the spot, they are surrounded by Mayan villagers armed of revolver, rifle and bow-and-arrow that kill Dimitri and do not allow the group to leave the place. They climb a construction covered of creepers with red flowers, and remain under siege of the locals. When they hear a cell phone in the bottom of a well, Mathias decides to seek the apparatus using a rope that breaks and he has a serious accident breaking his back. Amy and Stacy go to the bottom of the mine to rescue Mathias and they find many corpses covered by the climbing plants; further, they realize that they had been lured by the plants that are vibrating with the sound of a cell phone. When they are attacked by the carnivorous creeping plants, they understand the reaction of the Mayan villagers.

There are three things you can count on: death, taxes, and Sims expansion packs. We can do without the first two, but we’ll happily take the latter. The original The Sims received a whopping seven expansions, and now The Sims 2 receives its first pack in the form of The Sims 2 University. Cynics might argue that this is all overkill, but when a game is a huge creative and commercial success like The Sims 2, who wouldn’t want more? The Sims 2 University sure gives you more. You get a whole new young adult life stage, plus a new influence system, new careers, new interactions, new items and decorating schemes, and, of course, a whole new experience: university life. That new life experience is something of a letdown, but the new items and strategic options more than make up for it.

Though many games today take elements from existing titles and try to put their own spin on them, this form of imitation isn’t always a bad thing. There’s something to be said for honing a concept. But the possibility that the new twist on an old formula won’t actually improve the overall product certainly exists. The Punisher, a long-running Marvel Comics franchise about a vigilante trying to save the world from being overrun by scumbags, is no stranger to this concept. Back in 1993, the character appeared in an arcade game from Capcom that basically started with Final Fight as a template, and then dropped in The Punisher, Nick Fury, and so on. It wasn’t so great. Now, THQ and Volition have delivered a new game with The Punisher name. While it attempts to put its own spin on the third-person shooter genre by adding sometimes-gruesome interrogation sequences, this game is, more or less, Max Payne without the bullet time.
